My friend Dr Ashwinbhai Naik  asked me to share my views on the topic 'jealousy' and that created this viewpoint article. Jealousy is an emotion inherited by all of us. It has nothing to do with age, sex, intellectual level or financial status. This emotion is a negative one expressed according to the intensity of the feeling, and that is why some people can hide it even though they have it in the back of their minds.

I recently read the novel "Pyramid of Virgin Dreams" by Vipul Mitra. He affectionately described the pains and pleasures of multiple transfers because of his father’s job as DSP and later himself as an IAS officer. While reading it occurred to me, I have had a similar life of changing a place many times nearly every alternate year. So why not narrate my story and the article is here! A nomad means someone who lives by travelling from place to place - moving around all the while. I was a nomad for the initial 28 years of my life, staying and studying at more than 15 places. A year or two and change of the place again! 

વિદ્યાર્થીઓ દ્વારા શિક્ષકને વિદાય સમયે કદાચ સ્મૃતિ-ભેટ અપાય કે શાળા અને/અથવા વિદ્યાર્થીઓ દ્વારા સારી રીતે મઢાવેલ સન્માન-પત્ર વિદાય સમારંભ વખતે અર્પણ થાય. કદાચ વધુ ઉત્સાહી હોય તો સંભારણું કે પરિચય પુસ્તિકા છાપવામાં આવે છે. પણ વર્ષો પછી 2014 માં સ્ટુડન્ટ રિયુનિયનમાં ભેગા થયેલા 1988 બેચના વિદ્યાર્થીઓ તેમના ગુરુજી માટે એક જીવનચરિત્ર અને વિવિધ પ્રકારના લેખકો-સગા સંબંધીઓ અને વિદ્યાર્થીઓ દ્વારા લેખકોનું સંકલન કરી 422 પાનાનું પુસ્તક છાપાવે તેવું પહેલીવાર જોવા મળ્યું. ધન્ય છે ગુરુજી મહેશભાઈ અને ધન્ય છે આ સાહસ કરનાર વિરેનભાઈ-જીનાબેન શેઠ અને વિદ્યાર્થીઓ-શિષ્યો!   “વહાલનું અક્ષયપાત્ર” શીર્ષક બિલકુલ યથાર્થ છે, કારણ અહીં શિષ્યોએ (વિદ્યાર્થી અવસ્થામાં અને ત્યાર પછી જીવનપર્યંત) ગુરૂજીએ વરસાવેલ અનહદ પ્રેમ-આશીર્વાદ અને માર્ગદર્શનનું ઋણ અદા કારવાનો નમ્ર પ્રયાસ આદર્યો છે. મહાભારતમાં શ્રીકૃષ્ણે દ્રૌપદીને આપેલ અક્ષયપાત્રની જેમ જ આ માનવીય અક્ષયપાત્ર ક્યારેય ખાલી થયેલ શિષ્યોને લાગ્યું નથી ત્યારે, ગુરુજી પ્રેમના પ્રતીકરૂપ “વ્હાલનું અક્ષયપાત્ર” શિર્ષક યથાયોગ્ય અને સંપૂર્ણ છે. કોઈ જાતની ...

This is the story of senior citizens, say, old-aged people, above the age of 60 and their habit of minimum spending or not spending at all. They want to save a big amount of money till the last day of their lives and make a big heap of money to be left behind. Before I discuss the details, let me give you certain real-life examples without their names. Yes, all of these are true stories of senior citizens.

એક જ બેઠકમાં કે પછી સળંગ વાંચવાની ઉત્કંઠા જાગે એવી આ નવલકથાનો પરિચય કરાવવાનો નમ્ર પ્રયાસ કરતાં ખૂબ આનંદ થાય છે.  ભુજ રહેતા, હાલ 74 વર્ષીય, આપણાં લેખક શ્રી હરેશ ધોળકિયા જિંદગીના 25 વર્ષ શિક્ષણકાર્ય કરતાં હતા. અને આદર્શ શિક્ષકના એક લક્ષણ તરીકે પુસ્તકો વાંચવાની સરસ ટેવ ધરાવતા હતા. તે કારણે 1945 માં લખાયેલ 1930 ની કથાવસ્તુ ધરાવતી લેખિકા ઈયાન હેન્ડ દ્વારા લિખિત બે નવલકથાઓ વાંચે છે - 700+ પાનાંની Fountain Head (ફાઉન્ટન હેડ) સાત-સાત વાર સળંગ વાંચી તો 1150+ પાનાં ધરાવતી Atlas Shrugged (એટલાસ શ્રગ્ડ) પણ સળંગ અવારનવાર વાંચી. 1988ના વર્ષે થયેલ આ અકસ્માત(!) આપણી નવલકથાનું જન્મસ્થાન છે.  ફાઉન્ટન હેડ અને એટલાસ શ્રગ્ડ નવલકથાઓ રશિયન લેખિકા ઈયાન હેન્ડે અમેરિકા જઈને લખી છે અને બન્નેની 64 લાખ થી વધુ નકલો વિશ્વભરમાં વંચાય ચૂકી છે. બન્ને માં લેખકને “માનવ શ્રેષ્ઠત્વ” ના અદ્દભૂત દર્શન થયા છે. આ ઉપરાંત પ્રતિભાશાળી અને સામાન્ય (First Raters and Second Raters)નું તેમાં થયેલાં વર્ણન તેમણે આત્મશાત કર્યું છે.  પહેલા લેખકશ્રીના મિત્ર શ્રી સુરેશભાઈ પરીખે એટલાસ શ્રગ્ડનું ભાષાંતર કરવા સૂચવ્યું. ત્યાર પછી...

How long can a book review of a 230+ pages book be considered ideal? I was not sure, so I ignored this and summarised it in my way.  The author Courtney Carver was diagnosed having 'multiple sclerosis' – a gradually increasing and killing disease. She did not surrender, instead, she decided to live life debt-free, clutter-free, mostly stress-free, and this way she found out the purpose of life. To our surprise, she got cured of the disease.  She shared her experience in this book talking about soul by 'hand to heart exercise' and simplicity in ' Project 333 '. Let us see both and understand the book.  Exercise 1: Hand To Heart Exercise Put your hands on your heart.  Time: Choose a time each day when you can sit alone for a few minutes. You may light a candle. Keep a pen and paper nearby to jot down thoughts.  Sit: Sit comfortably on the floor, on a chair, on your bed or anywhere you feel comfortable.  Silence: Try practising in silence or with soft music....

This is a novel depicting the story of an IAS officer’s life. Author Vipul Mitra is himself an IAS officer serving in Gujarat and living with his family in Ahmedabad. This book could take birth after ten years of thinking, writing and rewriting!  The title pyramid was derived from an Egyptian pyramid with a gigantic structure, a symbol of power stretching higher and higher into the sky. The author compares the pyramid with bureaucrats. He says the only difference was that one housed deceased Egyptian pharaohs while other housed living, conniving, tattling officers. There is a long (300 pages!) story of dreams those are virgin like unconsummated physical relation! You will read this novel to know what happens to Kartikeya Kukereja who meets his first failed love Revati Kapoor after both married and long gap of time passes. Revati desires to re-unite but does Kartikeya have the courage to hold on Revati? Honest? Mediocre? Coward? Does he ultimately succeed in fitting her in his life?...
