I, at 60.

In my first presentation on At 60 and after… I had enlisted ten general characteristics related to age. Now I think it is worth writing my own experiences, views and ideas regarding the subject of being 60. Well, I am sharing my thoughts. I am sure you will respond with your comments.

First, I’d like to reply FAQs (frequently asked questions) regarding me:
1. Food I love to eat:
  • I like vegetarian South Gujarati food prepared by a professional cook. Dal-Bhat-Venganbataka shak being the first in the list. I would prefer eating Bataka-wada, Bhajiya or Patra instead of any Chinese, Punjabi or South Indian foods. I do not enjoy non-vegetarian dishes and alcoholic drinks.
2. Tours:
  • I love wandering freely all-around anywhere and everywhere. Trekking being the first, then round tour (of, say, south and north India) visiting different places in a row according to the decided time table and lastly one point tour of a particular place for a given period and returning home from that after seeing interesting places nearby.
  • For many tours in vacation, our family was accompanied by that of my close friend Girish Desai. My children - Vaishali and Rahul - celebrated their birthdays each year in succession at Mumbai, Kashmir and Kanya Kumari. Before we plan our fourth tour at Calcutta - my friend Girishbhai passed away in a roadside vehicle accident.
  • I love tour programs of a day or long equally. I can adjust with most of the available groups of any age.
3. Pleasures:
  • I enjoy watching a movie, drama and orchestra/music programs.
  • I can enjoy Garaba only when participants are my family members. I have never been a Garaba artist.
  • I have no liking for Ghazals.
  • I have attended music concerts without understanding anything and still liking it.
4. Home:
  • I love my small, but clean and nicely organized home. I can work, eat or sleep anywhere in the house.
  • The worth-seeing and unusual sight are one when both - my wife Dr Bhavana Desai and I - leave home in separate cars in the morning for our work.
  • Another scene worth mentioning is each of two sitting in separate rooms and one seeing TV serials and other playing with internet (because of wireless internet, now we are in one room doing independent activities).
  • Ours is a small home, but the first guest is always offered the master bedroom and the second guest gets another bedroom. The rare thing seen otherwise.
  • The peace at our home is loved by every visitor staying long.
5. Dressing:
  • I have not developed any patented dressing of my own.
  • I like wearing a tie since childhood.
  • I do not like wearing either Kurta-pajama or half-pants any more.
6. Anger:
  • I am a short temper person.
  • I get angry for trivial reasons, insults and irritations.
  • I have learnt the art of hiding or avoiding anger to some extent.
7. Hatred:
  • Once I know someone is cheating on me, I hate him/her.
  • If I notice someone making a false show to me, I avoid such persons around me.
  • Sometimes, on seeing someone, on instincts or on bases of a certain look, I find one hard to love.
Before I write conclusions at 60, I want to tell, my story about Relationship, Money, Medical Practice and Death at 60 - one by one.

  1. I just love reading your posts uncle. It is always like learning the secret knowledge of life from the people who have already learned it. Though we do experience things on our own, but it is very rare to find the words to express them. You do it flawlessly!
