યુધિષ્ઠિર કુરુક્ષેત્રના યુદ્ધમાં વિજયી થવા છતાં પોતે કુળનો નાશ કરાવ્યો હોવાનું અને સગા સંબંધીઓની હત્યા કરાવી હોવાથી મનોમંથન અનુભવે છે અને જીતીને પણ હાર્યો હોવાની લાગણી અનુભવે છે. યુધિષ્ઠિર વિષાદ-વૈરાગ્ય થવાથી ગૃહત્યાગ-સંસારત્યાગ કરીને વનમાં જવાની તૈયારી કરે છે.  ખરેખર તો રાજધર્મ સંસારત્યાગમાં નથી અને જીતેલા રાજાની ફરજ રાજ્યાભિષેક કરાવી પ્રજાની કાળજી રાખવામાં જ છે. એ વાત સમજાવવામાં નારદજી, વ્યાસ, માતા કુંતિ, ભીમ અને અર્જુન નિષ્ફળ જાય છે. રાજધર્મ અને ક્ષાત્રધર્મ યુદ્ધ દ્વારા રાજ્યપ્રાપ્તિ કર્યા પછી રાજાની દંડનીતિ અને રાજા જ ન હોય તો આખો દેશ પાયમાલ થઈ જશે એમ સમજાવવા માટે દ્રૌપદી-નકુળ અને સહદેવ ત્રણે નિષ્ફળ પ્રયત્ન કરે છે.  નિરાશ અને હતાશ એવા યુધિષ્ઠિર કોઈ વાતથી સમજતા નથી ત્યારે શ્રીકૃષ્ણ તેમને બાણશૈયા પર સૂતેલા જ્ઞાની ભીષ્મપિતામહને મળવા સમજાવે છે. ભીષ્મ ત્રણ-ચાર દિવસ દરરોજ યુધિષ્ઠિરને શ્રીકૃષ્ણ સાથે બોલાવી રાજધર્મ-ક્ષાત્રધર્મ-જીવનની ફરજો- ઉપરાંત લગભગ દરેક વિષય ઉપર વિગતવાર જ્ઞાન આપે છે અને ત્યારે છેલ્લે યુધિષ્ઠિર રાજ્યાભિષેક માટે સંમત થાય છે.  શાંતિપર્વ મહાભારતનો બારમો અધ્યા...

બધા કહે છે ભગવદ્દ ગીતાથી મારૂ જીવન ધન્ય બન્યું છે. મારા પ્રશ્નોનાં ઉત્તર મળે છે. અવારનવાર તે વાંચવાથી માનસિક શાંતિ-આનંદ અને શંકાનું સમાધાન થવા સાથે નવા નવા અર્થો મળે છે. તમારે ખાતરી કરવી હોય તો મહાભારતના 18 પર્વોમાંથી છઠ્ઠો ભીષ્મપર્વ શોધી તેમાંથી 26 થી 42 અધ્યાયો વાંચવા પડે. તેને ભગવદગીતા કહી છે. આમ 18 અધ્યાયમાં વહેંચાયેલા 700 ષ્લોક વાંચવા પડે. તમારા સહિત લગભગ મોટાભાગના હિન્દુઓ આવું કરતાં નથી, ત્યારે ભગવદગીતાનો સાર કહેવાનો અહીં ઉપક્રમ છે. જેનાથી આપસૌને ભગવદ્દ ગીતાના જ્ઞાનનો ભંડાર ટૂંકમાં મળી શકે. પછી વધુ ગૂંચવણો ન થાય એની મારી ખાત્રી છે. મહાભારતમાં વર્ણવેલ કુરુક્ષેત્રમાં થયેલા કૌરવો અને પાંડવો વચ્ચેના યુદ્ધની શરૂઆતમાં જ અર્જુનને સામે પક્ષે પોતાના કાકા, દાદા, ગુરુજી, મામા, ભાઈ, પુત્રો, મિત્રો, અને બધા સગા જોઈને સ્વજનો પ્રત્યે મોહમાયા-વિષાદ થવાથી – કરુણા થવાથી- યુદ્ધ પ્રત્યે શોક અને વૈરાગ્ય થાય છે. યુદ્ધ છોડી જવા અર્જુન વિચારે છે ત્યારે તેના સારથિ કૃષ્ણ યુદ્ધની અનિવાર્યતા સમજાવવા જે વાત કરે છે તે ભગવદ્દગીતા. તેમાં જીવન જીવવા જડીબુટ્ટી પણ આવી જાય છે. આપણે ૨૫૦૦ વર્ષ પહેલાં, સંસ્કૃતમાં વ્યાસમુની દ્વારા લખાયેલ મહાભારત વિષે એટલું જાણીએ કે તે ૧૮ લાખ શબ્દોથી બે લાખ લીટીમાં એક લાખ શ્લોકોવાળું હિંદુધર્મની માહિતી અને જ્ઞાન આપતું લાંબામાં લાંબી કવિતાનું પુસ્તક છે.  આ ધર્મપુસ્તકમાં હકીકતમાં અઢાર પર્વ-એટલે કે અઢાર અધ્યાયમાં કુરુક્ષેત્રના મેદાનમાં સો કૌરવો અને પાંચ પાંડવો (બન્ને પક્ષે પિત્રાઈભાઈઓ) વચ્ચે લડાયેલ યુદ્ધની વિગતવાર કથા છે. આ વાર્તા વ્યાસમુનીના વિદ્યાર્થી એવા વૈશામપાયને પ્રથમવાર વાંચીને તક્ષશિલા ખાતે અર્જુનના પૌત્ર એવા રાજા જન્મેજય ને સંભળાવી છે. વૈશમપાયને જન્મેજયને કહી સાંભળવી તે ધર્મકથા તે મહાભારત. મને ખબર છે તમારે ફક્ત કથાવસ્તુ ટૂંકાણમાં જ જાણવી છે- અઢાર લાખ શબ્દો દ્વારા કહેવાયેલ વાત હું અઢાર પાનામાં કથાનું હાર્દ સમજાય પણ લંબાણ ન થાય એ રીતે) કહેવાનો નમ્ર પ્રયાસ કરું છું.   કૌટુંબિક પરિચય મહાભારતની શરૂઆત કુરુવંશનો ઈતિહાસ અને કુટુંબવૃક્ષ (Family Tree) ના પરિચય થી આદિપર્વ માં થાય છે. ત્યાર પછી સભાપર્વ માં કૌરવો-પાંડવો વચ્ચે રમાયેલ ધૃત જૂગટું અને પાંડવોની હાર ની કથા છે. તેર વર્ષમાંથી પહેલાં બાર વર્ષના વનવાસનું વર્ણન વનપર્વ માં...

ભારત એક જમીન ધરાવતો પ્રદેશ છે - તે આપણને ખબર છે. પણ ભારત એ એક દેશ છે, જેમાં જીવંત-વિચારશીલ અને દેશપ્રેમ ધરાવતા લોકો સમુહમાં રહે છે, જેઓ ભારતીય તરીકે પોતાને ઓળખાવે છે અને ભારત દેશ માટે દેશપ્રેમ અને દેશભક્તિ ધરાવે છે. તે બરાબર જાણવાની જરૂરિયાત છે.   

If someone dared to ask you a simple question - "Do you follow Indian customs and traditions?" Most of the time the response would be negative. Because of being impressed by (and obsessed with) the Western styles and traditions seen during the British rule and afterwards, we follow them blindly and ultimately start ignoring our rich traditions. Many of us even feel shy to observe them. We have not bothered to understand our Indian culture at all. Our traditions have a scientific, logical, historical, social, and spiritual significance.

કાર્તિકેયના જન્મની વાત તારક નામ ના અસૂરે દાનવે દેવોને હરાવ્યા હતા. તેને મારવા માટે દેવોએ શું-કરવું તે વિચાર્યું તેને તારક ને મળેલા વરદાન મુજબ તેને ફક્ત નાનું બાળક દ્વારા બનેલું અને માર્ગદર્શિત લશ્કર જ મારી શકે એમ હોવાથી તેઓએ બ્રમ્હાનો સંપર્ક કર્યો. બ્રમ્હાના કહેવા મુજબ ફક્ત શિવ -પુરુષ દ્વારા ફક્ત એકલાથી પેદા થયેલ બાળક – ફક્ત ભગવાન શંકર જ આપી શકે ભગવાન શંકર ને મોહિત કરવા “કામ” ને મોકલ્યો પરંતુ શિવ તેને “ત્રીજી આંખ” ખોલી ને ભશ્મ બનાવી દીધો. ત્યારે તેમણે શક્તિ પાર્વતિ ને આજીજી કરી. પરંતુ આ ભગવાન શિવને પાર્વતિ મનાવી શક્તિ નથી. પરંતુ પછીથી દેવો અને પાર્વતિ ની વિનંતી ગ્રાહ્ય રાખી શિવ છ ચમકારા જેવા અગ્નિ રૂપે બીજ એટલે કે વીર્ય આપે છે તેથી કાર્તિકેય ને સ્કંધ (વીર્ય દ્વારા જીવીત) પણ કહે છે. આવા શક્તિશાળી અને ઉષ્ણ બીજને અગ્નિને દેવો આપે છે. અગ્નિ બીજને ગરમ હોવાથી સાચવી શક્તિ નથી, ત્યારે પવનને આપે છે. જે વાયુ- પવન ગંગામાં પધરાવે છે ત્યાં પાણી ઉકાળવા માંડે છે અને બારું ના જંગલમાં આ વીર્યમાથી આગ લગતાં,બચેલા અંગારામાથી છ બાળકો ઉદભવે છે. માં માટે રડતાં તડપતા છ બાળકો માંથી છ માથાવાળું એ...

ભગવાન ગણપતિનો જન્મ વિનાયક: નાયક (પુરુષ)ના સંબંધ વિના-વગર જન્મેલા તે ગણપતિ જ્યારે શિવ-પાર્વતી ને ગર્ભવતી બનાવવાનો ઇન્કાર કરે છે, ત્યારે પાર્વતિ શરીર ઉપર હળદળ અને તેલનો લેપ લાગવે છે તે સુકાઈ જાય છે ત્યારે શરીર પર થી ઘસી કાઢીને હળદળ-તેલ અને પોતાના પરસેવા યુક્ત ભૂકો ભેગો કરી ને ઢીંગલી બનાવી તેમાં પ્રાણ ફુકે છે જેથી પુત્ર ઉત્પન થાય છે આમ માણસની મદદ વગર પુત્ર થયો હોવાથી વિનાયક તરીકે ઓળખાય છે. શિવ અને શક્તિ પાર્વતિ હાથી સ્વરૂપે બનીને સવંનન કરે છે તેમાથી ઉત્પન્ન થતો પુત્ર ગણેશ કહેવાય. એક ત્રીજી વાયકા પ્રમાણે શિવ પાર્વતિ ને પ્રસન્ન કરવા પુત્ર ઉત્પન્ન કરે છે પણ તે ફકત પિતા જેવા વધારે પડતો દેખાતો હોવાથી પાર્વતિ તેનું માથું હાથી સાથે બદલી દે છે. ગણેશ પુરાણ અને ગણેશ ઉપનિષદ માં ગણેશને પોતાની જાતે જ ઉત્પન્ન થયેલ માનવમાં આવે છે. ગણેશ મસ્તક વીચ્છેદન અને પુન:સ્થાપન ગણપતિ પાર્વતિ નું રક્ષણ કરવાના ઇરાદે ભગવાન શિવને કૈલાશ ઘરમાં આવતા રોકે છે, ત્યારે શિવ ત્રિશુળ વડે વિનાયક નું મસ્તક છેદન કરે છે. શિવ લોહીવાળું વિનાયક નું મસ્તક લઈ ઘરમાં પાર્વતિ પાસે જાય છે, ત્યારે દૂ:ખી થઈ પાર્વતિ “મારો પુત્ર” એ...

ભગવાન શિવ-શંકર-મહાદેવ અને ગણેશ વિષે આપણે ખૂબ જ ભક્તિભાવ ધરાવતા હોઈએ છીએ. એ બન્ને વિષે જાતજાતની માહિતી રાખીએ છે. પણ તેમના કુટુંબના અગત્યના સભ્ય પાર્વતી-મા દુર્ગા-વિષે લગભગ અજ્ઞાત છીએ. ચાલો, મા પાર્વતીને વિગતે ઓળખીએ. પર્વતપુત્રી તે પાર્વતી પર્વત રાજા હિમાવત અને માતા મેનાવતીની પુત્રી પાર્વતીનો ભગવાન શિવ પતિ છે, તો ગણેશ અને કાર્તિકેય   પુત્રો છે. પાર્વતિના ભાઈ વિષ્ણુ અને બહેન નદી ગંગા છે. આ સામાજીક પરિચય વાળી મા પાર્વતીને પર્વતને લીધે શૈલજા, અદિજા, નાગજા, ગિરિજા, અને હેમવતી તરીકે પણ ઓળખવામા આવે છે.

શિવ – શંકર – ભોલેનાથ તરીકે ભગવાન શંકર નો પરિચય ભોલેનાથ તરીકે અવરનવાર આપવામાં આવે છે, તે અમસ્તો નથી. તેના ભોળપણ ના અસંખ્ય દાખલાઓ તેમના જીવનમાથી જોવા મળે છે, તેથી આ વાત સાબિત થયેલ છે. તો, ચાલો,તેની વિગત મેળવીએ. ભગવાન શિવ દુનિયાદારીથી તદ્દન અજાણ હતા એટલે તેમને લગ્ન કેવી રીતે થાય, લગ્ન પછી ઘર કેમ જોઈએ અથવા લગ્ન પછી શરીર સંબધ શા માટે જરૂરી તેની બિલકુલ ખબર નહોતી.

It states: For every action there will be an equal and opposite reaction. Opposite, of course, means opposite in direction. Whatever interactions I have with others, I receive the equivalent in return. This means that, if I have given happiness, I will get happiness in return and if I have given sorrow, I will receive sorrow in return.
